On
Saturday, February 26, the Upper Arlington High School
Girls' Swimming and Diving
Teams won the State Championship again! The Golden
Bears have captured the State Championship title in
2003, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, and now again
in 2011!
From
the February 27 Columbus Dispatch:
Upper
Arlington won the last two relays and finished with
286 points to easily outscore Cincinnati St. Ursuline
(212), Cincinnati Turpin (188) and Watterson (143).
The difference between the Bears and the field is usually
in the depth of the teams, Peterkoski said.
"You
can't win a state title with just a couple of people,"
Peterkoski said. "There are better swimmers in
this pool that aren't on our team, but they're here
with three or four and we're here with 12.
The
Golden Bears team of Gabby Veri, Kayla Hammerberg, Lauren
Comer and Chin set a state record in the 200 freestyle
relay with a time of 1:34.12, beating the mark of 1:34.24
set in 2009 by Upper Arlington. Hammerberg was a member
of both teams. Watterson was second in 1:35.03.
